Bassline and Speed Garage

Bassline (or sometimes referred to as bassline house) is a type of music related to Garage that originated from Speed Garage.

Furthermore It shares characteristics with fellow Genres Grime and Dubstep for their emphasis on Bass.

Also the style originated in Sheffield around 2002.

Bassline was controversial in Sheffield because of a Drug Raid by the Police at the former bassline nightclub "Niche", resulting in its closure.

Due to it being the most popular bassline nightclub in Sheffield prior to its closure,

"Niche" is sometimes used as an alternative name for the musical genre.

Probably like grime, bassline was associated with violence, anti-social behaviour and criminal activity during the time of its rise to popularity.

Hard House and Trance

Trance is a genre of electronic dance music that developed during the 1990's in Germany.

It is characterized by a tempo lying between 125 and 150 BPM. Although trance is a genre of its own.

Hence It liberally incorporates influences from other musical styles such as techno, house, hard house and pop music.

A Trance refers to a state of hypnotism and heightened consciousness.

This is portrayed in trance music by the mixing of layers with distinctly foreshadowed build-up and release.

A characteristic of virtually all trance music is a mid-song climax followed by a soft breakdown disposing of beats and percussion entirely.

Leaving the melody and/or atmospherics to stand alone for an extended period before gradually building up again.

As a result, trance tracks are often lengthy to allow for this progression and have sufficiently sparse opening and closing sections to facilitate mixing by DJs.

Drum & Bass And Jungle

Jungle is a genre that developed in England in the early 1990's as part of the rave music scenes.

The style is characterized by a fast tempo of 150 to 170 BPM.

With a relatively slow and lyrical reggae-derived basslines, and other heavily syncopated percussive samples, loops and synthesized effects make up the easily recognizable form of jungle.

Long pitch-shifted snare rolls are common in old school jungle. The terms "Drum 'N' Bass" and "Jungle" are often used interchangeably.

Whether both genres are actually distinct is an ongoing topic of debate.

For those individuals who consider the two genres as separate entities, Drum 'N' Bass is usually considered to have departed from jungle in the mid to late 1990's.

The genre "rave", also known as hardcore by early ravers.

This first appeared amongst the UK "acid" movement during the late 1980s at warehouse parties and other underground venues, as well as on pirate radio stations.

The genre would develop into hardcore which then lead onto newer forms of rave music such as 2-step and Drum and Bass.

Prominent artists that stylized this genre include Dizzee Rascal, Septa, Wiley and Lethal Bizzle.

UK Garage is a genre of electronic dance music which originates from England in the early 1990s.

The genre usually features a distinctive 4/4 percussive rhythm with syncopated (shuffling) hi-hats, cymbals and snares, and in some styles, beat-skipping kick drums.

Garage tracks also commonly feature 'chopped up' and time-shifted or pitch-shifted vocal samples complementing the underlying rhythmic structure at a tempo usually around 130 BPM.
